Forum Saturday Seminar - The Nature and Value of Scientific Christian Apologetics
Apologetics is mentioned in Scripture at several points. How do we understand apologetics today? Is it confined to questions from the humanities or can science also contribute? What is Scientific Apologetics? Is it effective, and to whom is it relevant? We will discuss the example the Einsteins theory of relativity and environmental issues as illustrations of scientific apologetics.
Example #1 - Has Science Proven that Morals are Relative?
People are claiming that science has shown that morals and ethics are relative, and there are no moral absolutes. One reason many give is Einstein showed that everything is relative. Others claim that science is not really objective, but its truth is highly culture-dependent and its pictures or paradigms change radically with time. In this lecture these two lines of reasoning are examined both for scientific and philosophical content. Reasonable answers to the question in the title will be outlined.
Example #2 - Global Warming, Renewable Energy and Human Change
Emissions of carbon dioxide from combustion of fossil fuels are increasing atmospheric CO2 levels, which may already be causing global warming. To reduce these emissions we must use suitable alternatives to fossil fuel combustion for world energy needs. Three exciting multi-dimensional methods for lessening our dependence on fossil fuel combustion are described. What can the average person do to help changes happen? What is the truth about the nature of humans and our behaviors to guide us in making effective laws for changing the way we effect the environment? How can we educate and motivate people to care and act before it is too late? How can people really change from within?
